Substitutes

DMS is always hiring substitutes. Substitutes usually work with either the regular classroom lead teacher or with the regular assistant teacher. They act in a supportive role, helping with classroom management, work completion, playground duty, or light cleaning. You can specify days and times that you are available. Substitutes are a vital part of any school.

Minimum Qualifications: GED or High School Diploma, able to pass criminal history and sexual abuse background checks, have/get fingerprinted for the Maine DOE and DHHS

Desired Qualifications: Associates Degree or higher, Montessori experience, classroom experience


classroom assistants

Classroom Assistants are full-time employees. They work directly with the children, supporting the children in their daily work and procedures. They work directly with the Lead Teachers. Each classroom has a Lead and an Assistant. This position includes recess and cleaning responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree (Primary Level), Bachelors Degree (Elementary and above), able to pass criminal history and sexual abuse background checks, have/get fingerprinted for the Maine DOE and DHHS

Desired Qualifications: Montessori experience or training, teaching license


Lead Teachers

Lead Classroom Teachers guide multi-age classrooms academically, socially, and emotionally using both Montessori methods and Positive Discipline strategies. This is a dynamic position that requires love, patience, organization, and joy. The lead teachers organize the classroom, deliver academic material, and oversee the assistant teachers. The teachers communicate with parents, plan classroom events, attend school-wide events, and generally support an atmosphere of positivity and learning.

Teachers should possess warmth, excitement, a sense of humor, and a passion for the Montessori philosophy. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, classroom experience, and the ability to work collaboratively in a collegial environment. Salary is commensurate with experience. Health insurance and long-term disability benefits are offered, as well as a supportive environment and a close-knit staff.

Minimum Qualifications: All lead teachers must either be fully trained or in the process of being trained through a MACTE accredited Montessori program. They will also need to acquire or have a Maine state teaching license. All staff must pass criminal history and sexual abuse background checks, and have/get fingerprinted for the Maine DOE and DHHS

Desired Qualifications: At least three years of previous Montessori experience, preferably in the same classroom.


Other positions

From time to time we have other positions open up, like janitorial, administrative, reading specialist, and others. Also, it is possible that a part-time position, like being on our substitute teacher list, might lead to a full-time position. We have also sometimes supported assistant teachers in becoming lead teachers. We also employ part-time music, art, and Latin instructors.
